Flagstaff, Arizona, which is approximately 7,000 feet (2,134 m) above sea level, has a four-season climate with mild summers (the average daily high temperature in July is 82° Fahrenheit (28° Celsius)) and brisk winters (the mean high temperature in January is 42° Fahrenheit (6° Celsius)).  The humidity is generally low, and there are, on average, 288 days of sunshine per year and 23 inches (58 cm) of annual precipitation, which includes 109 inches (277 cm) of snowfall.

Since the elevation in northern Arizona varies greatly, the climate varies accordingly.  For example, Sedona, which is approximately 4,300 feet (1,311 m) in elevation, has an average annual temperature which is 17° Fahrenheit (9° Celsius) warmer than Flagstaff’s and is considerably drier than its neighbor to the north.

In sum, the climate of northern Arizona is more temperate than the well-known deserts in the southern portions of the state, where the city of Phoenix, Arizona's capital, is located.
